Zoom has become a much used video method for connecting people together. Families are using it to see the grand kids, trainers are using it to teach classes, doctors are using it for remote diagnosis, and many more uses. If you haven’t used Zoom, here are the simple steps to get you into a Zoom session:
Step 1: Download and Install Zoom (If You Haven’t Already)
On a Computer:
- Go to the Zoom website: https://zoom.us/download.
- Click on “Download” under Zoom Client for Meetings.
- Run the downloaded file to install Zoom on your computer.
On a Smartphone or Tablet:
- Go to the App Store (for iPhone/iPad) or Google Play Store (for Android devices).
- Search for “Zoom Cloud Meetings”.
- Download and install the app.
Step 2: Join the Zoom Session
Open the Zoom Application:
- On your computer, double-click the Zoom icon on your desktop or click the Zoom app icon from your applications.
- On your smartphone or tablet, tap the Zoom app icon to open it.
Click “Join a Meeting”:
- You do not need to sign in. Click “Join a Meeting” on the Zoom home screen.
Enter the Meeting ID:
- In the field labeled “Meeting ID or Personal Link Name”, enter the Zoom Meeting ID provided in the email for the appointment (Example: 123-456-7890).
- Click “Join”.
Enter the Password (If Applicable):
- If a password is required, you will be prompted to enter it. You can find this in the email with the Zoom link.
- NOTE: I use MEETING ROOM, not Passwords.
Enable Audio and Video:
- When prompted, choose “Join with Computer Audio” or “Call via Device Audio” to hear the session.
- Enable video if you’d like to be seen by the instructor and other participants.
Step 3: Enter the Waiting Room
You will be placed into a Waiting Room upon joining.
- Please wait patiently to be admitted into the meeting shortly before the scheduled Zoom session starts.
Helpful Tips:
- Test Your Setup: Check your audio and video settings before the meeting starts by clicking “Test Computer Audio” or “Settings” in the Zoom app.
- Mute/Unmute: During the class, you can mute or unmute yourself by clicking the microphone icon in the bottom-left corner of the Zoom window.
- Raise Hand: If you have a question during the meeting, use the “Raise Hand” feature by clicking on “Participants” and then “Raise Hand”.
- If you run into any problems or have questions, contact the person who scheduled your zoom session.
