The Internet Explorer browser is 25 years old! For the past 5 years, it has been insecure because Microsoft stopped updating it once they released their EDGE browser. Protection software such as Malwarebytes Browser Guard and Emsisoft Security Guard no longer offer extensions to protect Internet Explorer. Cyber criminals are now using the security ‘holes’ in Internet Explorer to infect computers with malware. I have been advising my clients not to use it as their browser.
This past week, Microsoft formally announced that Internet Explorer will not be available as of June 15, 2022. After August 17, 2021, Internet Explorer will no longer support Microsoft 365 services such as Office 365 online, OneDrive, or Outlook.
What can you do?
If there is not another browser on your computer, download and install Chrome, Firefox or Edge.
Use Edge, Chrome, or Firefox as your browser. (browsers allow you to go to web sites).
Unpin Internet Explorer from your taskbar.
Unpin Internet Explorer from your start menu.
Delete Internet Explorer from your Desktop.
Make another browser your default browser app from PC Settings / Apps.
Import favorites, passwords, and cookies from Internet Explorer to Bookmarks in your other browsers. This transfers your saved favorites from Internet Explorer.
Stop using Internet Explorer. Start using a supported, secure browser to access your websites.
