THINGS THAT CAN PHYSICALLY DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER

A computer, tablet and smartphone are expensive devices. There are some things to be aware of that can physically damage the devices.

  • Liquids: Spilled on laptops, keyboards and mice damage the circuitry
  • Heat: Overheating is the enemy of computers; if your device is hot to the touch, the cooling fan may not be working and your device may turn itself off.
  • Dropping: may damage the hard drive, especially if the computer was on and running when dropped.
  • Lightning: Electrical storms cause power surges and may pop capacitors on the motherboard. Plug your computer into a surge protector or battery backup. Laptops should be unplugged from power outlets during Lightning storms.
Loss of power: Towers that turn off unexpectedly during a Windows update may refuse to boot up again.

Take good care of your computer, tablets and smart phones and they will serve you well for many years.
