The Veterans Day holiday is held on the anniversary of the end of World War I (November 11, 1918) to honor U.S. veterans and victims of all wars. In 1926 and 1938, legislation was passed to dedicate November 11 “to the cause of world peace and to hereafter be known as “Armistice Day”. Veterans Day replaced Armistice Day in 1954 and became a federal holiday in 1968.
